Online Introductory Session:
An Introduction to Manual Thermal Evaluation (MTE) + Other Skills that Assist in Feeling the Arrival of Qi***
with Velia Wortman, Bart Wintjes, Felix de Haas, Marguerite Dinkins, & Dan Bensky
*** This class will follow the same format as our January 26th “Introduction to Manual Thermal Evaluation (MTE)” with direct instruction from EV teachers on how to practice MTE in smaller breakout rooms. We are including an additional hour at the end to further refine the needling technique taught in this webinar as well as introduce another skill to assist in feeling the arrival of qi.
Manual Thermal Evaluation (MTE) is a core palpation technique taught in the Engaging Vitality Introductory Module Series. Developed by Jean-Pierre Barral, MTE utilizes sensitivity to temperature changes to identify dysfunction in the body.
In this introductory webinar, Engaging Vitality teachers will teach students how to perform MTE and discuss its wide-ranging applicability for practitioners of traditional East Asian Medicine, as it can help us:
Discover areas of the body that can benefit by being addressed with acupuncture or other modalities
Discern more effective point selection
Provide feedback that our treatments are effectively engaging the body’s self-healing mechanisms
Clarify diagnosis
In addition, we will go though other easily-learned palpatory techniques that can fine tune point location, refine the angle and depth of needle insertions, and give a few ways to directly feel if the needle has activated the body’s qi for therapeutic benefit (“arrival of qi”).
PLEASE READ: This class will include instruction on how to perform Manual Thermal Evaluation. For this reason it’s highly recommended that participants have a partner, friend, or fellow student available to practice on, especially during the last half of the webinar. This class also involves direct instruction/feedback from EV teachers through the Zoom platform. For this reason a requirement to participate in this webinar is that you have a working camera on your computer/tablet device and keep it on the full four hours (excluding breaks that will be taken every hour).
Prerequisite: Open to all licensed acupuncturists as well as current-enrolled students with needling experience***
